You know the morning. The first one where you step outside, the air bites a little, and you turn right around to grab something warmer. For me, that's the start of sweatshirt season, and honestly? It's one of my favorite days of the year.
A good sweatshirt becomes a kind of uniform from October to March. School runs. Saturday errands. Wednesday night Bible study. Curled up on the couch with a blanket you don't actually need. If you're going to live in something that much, it should feel good and say something you mean.
That's what this guide is for. Whether you're shopping for yourself or hunting for a Christmas gift, here's how to choose a Christian sweatshirt you'll reach for again and again, not one that ends up folded in the back of a drawer.

What makes a Christian sweatshirt worth wearing
Let's start with the boring stuff, because it's the stuff that decides whether you love it in February. Four things matter more than anything else.
1. The fabric
A sweatshirt has to survive a whole winter of wear and washing, so look at the fabric content and weight before you look at the design.
Ours are made on the Comfort Colors 1566 crewneck: 80% ring-spun cotton and 20% polyester, at a medium-heavy 9.5 oz per square yard. That mix is the sweet spot. Mostly cotton, so it's soft and breathes. A little polyester, so it holds its shape. And it's garment-dyed, which gives it that washed, lived-in look from day one, the same finish our tees have. (If you already own one of our tees, you know the feel. If not, our Comfort Colors tee guide explains why we love this family of garments.)
2. The fit
The 1566 is a relaxed crewneck with 1x1 ribbed collar, cuffs and hem. It's roomy without being shapeless. Here's a simple way to choose your size: if you like a classic, easy fit, order your usual size. If you want that slouchy, oversized look, a lot of women go one size up. Sizes run S through 3XL, and if you're stuck between two, send us a note and we'll help you pick.
3. The print
Some printed sweatshirts have a design that sits on top like a thick sticker. It cracks, it peels, and it's stiff in the middle of your chest. Ours are printed directly into the fabric, so the design stays soft and moves with you.
4. The message
This is the part only you can decide. A sweatshirt is something you'll wear on your hardest days and your laziest ones. Choose a verse you'd be glad to see in the mirror on both.

Which design fits which woman
If you're shopping for someone else, this is where it gets fun. A verse can say a lot about the person you're giving it to. Here are a few of our designs and who I'd pick each one for:
| Sweatshirt | Verse | Perfect for |
|---|---|---|
| Transformed by Grace | 2 Corinthians 5:17 | A new believer, a baptism, or a friend who's come through a hard season changed |
| His Mercies Are New Every Morning | Lamentations 3:22-23 | The early riser, or the woman who needs a fresh start every day |
| Be Still | Psalm 46:10 | Your anxious friend, the over-thinker, the mom running on empty |
| Consider the Wildflowers | Luke 12:27 | The gardener, the hiker, anyone who worries more than she'd admit |
| Fruit of the Spirit | Galatians 5:22-23 | Your Bible study group, or the friend who's always growing something |
| Be Salty Stay Lit | Matthew 5:13-14 | The one with the sense of humor (every family has one) |
| O Holy Night | Christmas carol | Christmas Eve service, the woman who loves the nativity story |
| Prince of Peace | Isaiah 9:6 | Anyone who needs peace more than presents this year |
If one of these verses has a story behind it, I've written about a few: what transformed by grace really means, the meaning behind Be Still, and why Consider the Wildflowers resonates. A little backstory makes a gift feel twice as thoughtful.
Take Transformed by Grace, for example. It's built on one of the most hopeful sentences Paul ever wrote:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
That's a lot to say with a sunflower and a few butterflies. But that's the beauty of a good design. It starts the conversation, and the verse finishes it.
Christian Christmas sweatshirts: wear the real story
I love a silly Christmas sweater as much as anyone. (No judgment if there's a reindeer one in your closet.) But there's something special about wearing the actual reason for the season to the cookie swap, the school concert, or Christmas Eve service.
Most of our sweatshirts this year are Christmas designs, and they lean toward the nativity rather than the North Pole. Painted stables and stars. Wise men. Carol lines like "a thrill of hope" and "let heaven and nature sing." Names of Jesus from Isaiah. They're festive without being costume-y, so you can wear them all through December and not feel silly on the 26th.
You'll find them all, Christmas and everyday, in our Christian sweatshirts collection. And if you'd rather have a tee for layering, our Christmas tees pair nicely under a cardigan.
How to style a faith sweatshirt (without trying very hard)
The beauty of a crewneck is that it doesn't ask much of you. A few easy combinations:
- Weekend errands: sweatshirt, straight jeans, sneakers. Add a ball cap on a no-wash hair day. Done.
- Church or small group: tuck the front of the sweatshirt loosely into high-waisted jeans or a midi skirt and add ankle boots. Pull a collared shirt underneath if you want to look a little more put-together.
- Fall festivals and football games: leggings, boots, a puffer vest on top. The design stays visible, and you stay warm.
- Cozy at home: it's a sweatshirt. You already know what to do. (Fuzzy socks are not optional.)
For more outfit ideas, our modest church outfits guide has plenty that work with a crewneck layered in.
Giving a sweatshirt as a gift
A sweatshirt might be the easiest Christmas gift there is. It's personal without being fussy, practical without being boring, and it gets worn all winter long. A few tips from experience:
- Sizing for someone else: go with the size she wears in tees and sweaters. If she likes things roomy, go one up.
- Write a note about the verse. Two lines on why you picked it for her. That's what turns clothing into a keepsake.
- Order early. Each one is printed to order and shipped in the US, so give it plenty of time, especially in the December rush. We can't guarantee delivery by a particular date, so for Christmas, the earlier you order, the better.
- Pair it with a tee. Our Build a Bundle discount applies automatically when you buy more than one item, so a sweatshirt and a matching tee costs less than buying them separately.

Quick answers to the questions we get most
What are your Christian sweatshirts made of?
Comfort Colors 1566: 80% ring-spun cotton, 20% polyester, 9.5 oz per square yard, garment-dyed, with ribbed collar, cuffs and hem.
How much do they cost?
$56.99 for sizes S to XL, $59.99 for 2XL and $64.99 for 3XL. Shipping is free in the US.
How do they fit?
Relaxed. Order your usual size for a classic fit, or size up for an oversized one.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash cold and tumble dry low. Don't iron the print or dry clean it.
Do you have matching tees?
Yes. Many of our sweatshirt designs are also available as tees, so you can often get the same verse in both.
The sweatshirt you'll reach for
At the end of a long day, the clothes we love most are the ones that feel like a hug. A soft sweatshirt with a verse on it is a hug and a reminder at the same time.
So pick the verse that speaks to the season you're in. Pull it on when the mornings turn cold. Let it remind you, and maybe the person in line behind you at the coffee shop, Who's holding you through the winter.
With love, Anna
P.S. If you can't decide, start with His Mercies Are New Every Morning. It's the same sunrise design as our most-loved tee, and there's something about reading "every morning" on a cold, dark one that just helps.
